ASSOCIATION VIA FRANCIGENA
|
- Canterbury to Aoste, the Swiss part is the most beautiful for pilgrims!
- From Geneva airport you reach easily by train Vallorbe and from there you walk 250 km of beautiful VF to Aosta!
- To begin in Aosta
- For HELP in Italy call CHIAMARE 112 CARABINIERI
- The pass of the Great St-Bernard opens to the traffic between 15.5-15.6.according to meteo! The AVF has arranged to rent (free for the Friends-AMIS AIVF mercii!) in case of snow of SNOW SHOES at CRYSTAL Sport in Orsières-CH Tel. 027 783 24 40 fax 783 24 34 to give back at the Casa Ospitaliera St-Oyen-Italy (grazie!!). Follow advices for the climbing, we don't assume any responsabiity! www.gsbernard.ch
- Eiler Pritz-NO for North F:long stretches on asphalt can almost be a joy by dragging the rucksack on a well balanced two-wheel roller! Using the walking stick as a handle gives sufficient room backwards. Taking the weight off the feet reduces the blister and tendonisis problems, and it is possible to increase the length of the stages considerably on hard roads.
- Peter Robins, AVF webmaster, has some advice for walkers: what to take; blister avoidance
- Joe Patterson and other pionniers do not recommand Sutri-Bracciano-Rome
- Raymond Turner: do NOT fellow the VF signposting from Martigny to Sembrancher (ACCIDENT:the path disapeared under my feet!), do fellow the TOPOFRANCIGENA + Guide Vademecum route
- Possibility of leaving package at the CFF station in St-Maurice and get it on Great St-B.?
- Show your AMIS-Card V.F. for reductions in accomodations  mentioned in DORMIFRANCIGENA B.2006 for AMIS
- To save your knees especially walking downhill (from St Bernard pass for ex!): roll out you feet from the heal
- Oscillococcinum: homoeopthic vaccine against flue and colds because of climate differences, contre les refroidissements à cause des différences de climat, gegen Erkaeltungen wegen Klimat Unterchiede.
- Vaccination contre tiques-Zecken Schutzimpfung-
- Exists in France: almost all the Marne (RP 51) and the Doubs (Friends of St-Jacques), in Switzerland the excellent yellow signposting of pedestrian ways; Lausanne-city has the one of St-James
- Yellow braun pilgrim in Italy ?! doesn't exist or exists, but not usefull or wrong on SS, SC ou footpaths. Follow exactly the TOPO-francigena A +B of AIVF with updatings.
Just as in the Middle Ages, pilgrims on the Via Francigena demonstrate that they are making the pilgrimage to ROME by wearing the VF pennant on their rucksack and the little keys of St Peter sewed on their hat or jacket. Later when they had gone to Jerusalem they would add the palm as symbol.
